Macron has completed the presidency of the EU Council/Présidence française du Conseil de la UE
Emmanuel Macron ended his presidency of the EU Council on June 30th. He was succeeded by Petr Fiala, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic.
Macron presided over the EU Council for 6 months. He handed over his powers to Fiala on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Madrid.
Macron assumed the Presidency of the EU Council on January 1, 2022. It happened in Slovenia. While Macron called the priorities of his work “restoration, strength and a sense of belonging”.
We need to move from the state of Europe, which cooperates within its borders, to which is a powerful player in the world, fully sovereign and free to decide its own destiny and make its own choices. Macron said at the time.
When he took office, the Eiffel Tower was lit up with the EU flag.
Zelensky congratulated Macron
President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated Macron on the successful completion of the French presidency in the Council of the EU. The Ukrainian leader stressed that it has become historic for Ukraine, as well as for all of Europe.
“I welcome Macron on the successful completion of the French presidency of the EU Council. It has become historic for Ukraine and all of Europe. Together we make Europe stronger,” Zelensky said.
