Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna commented on the statement of French President Emmanuel Macron about the potential possibility of sending troops to Ukraine. According to him, this shows that the importance of Kyiv's victory has reached Western decision-makers, and they are ready to do more.

Recently During a conversation with reporters, French leader Emmanuel Macron said that he does not exclude the possibility of introducing NATO troops into Ukraine. However, it is impossible to say that there is a single consensus on this among world leaders.

Opinion of the Estonian Minister

The head of the Estonian Foreign Ministry noted that in order to help Ukraine defeat Russia in the war unleashed by the Kremlin, the EU “should start by fulfilling the promises already made.” In particular, he recalled that Ukraine has not yet received the promised million ammunition.

Tsahkna called on the European Union to “be more courageous and ambitious.” ~

Macron's announcement that he might consider sending troops to Ukraine was a paradigm shift. This shows that the importance of Ukraine’s victory has reached Western politicians who make decisions, and they are ready to do more,” the head of the Estonian Foreign Ministry emphasized.

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna admitted that there is no consensus yet on the issue of sending troops to Ukraine. However, he is convinced, “this may change the attitude of some countries towards immediate military assistance to Ukraine, since this will certainly be a simpler solution than direct intervention.”

“Important “Note that on the issue of ammunition, the principle that it should only come from the European defense industry has been abolished. It is good that we are discussing various options and our priority is to deliver ammunition to Ukraine as quickly as possible, receiving it from wherever possible,” – Minister Tsahkna added.

In addition, he recalled the statement of the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, who called for using the profits from the frozen assets of the Russian central bank to purchase military equipment for Ukraine.

According to Tsahkna, this would be an important step.

The head of the Estonian Foreign Ministry noted that Russia should receive a clear signal that there will be no flexibility or return to normal relations until Ukraine wins and the damage done to Ukraine is compensated. “By our actions we must show that time is running out not for Ukraine, Europe and the entire democratic world, but for the aggressor,” he concluded.
