Alexander Lukashenko has been “driving” Russian President Vladimir Putin for the 20 years he has been in power. However, such actions of the self-proclaimed President of Belarus began under Boris Yeltsin.
Russian publicist Andrei Piontkovsky spoke about this on Channel 24.
He noted that Lukashenka is ready to do everything so that Putin does not kill him. This is the smartest politician. After all, every year the self-proclaimed president of Belarus came to Moscow and drank a glass of vodka in the Palace of Facets. Then he signed some new agreement, which was about a comprehensive unification with Russia, received 10 billion dollars – and went back.
However, he was never ready for a second to do what they wanted from him – first Yeltsin, and then Putin, – Andrei Piontkovsky said.
“He brilliantly played on the imperial instincts of the Russian elite. It was not Putin who invented all these imperial complexes. They were always there, because they constantly wanted to dominate. And he sold them the hope of resuming the “greatness of the Soviet Union”.This is his first trick“, the Russian publicist explained.
According to him, second move– these are the words of Lukashenka that he, like a shield, protects Russia from NATO. It is his military efforts that allegedly require specific financial compensation.
“So he survived. However, it was especially difficult during the elections. After all, then Putin did not play on his side. Putin thought about replacing Lukashenka with people who who are more inclined to impulses to unite,” Piontkovsky summed up.
