In particular, the British Ministry of Defence drew attention to the recent killing of Major General Mikhail Gudkov, the former commander of the 155th Marine Brigade of the Russian Pacific Fleet.
According to official confirmation from the Russian Defense Ministry, Gudkov died on July 2, 2025, as a result of a Ukrainian strike on a command post in the Kursk region. In March of this year, he was appointed deputy commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy. In all likelihood, he led the actions of marine units that were trying to create a buffer zone in the Sumy region of Ukraine.
According to British intelligence, Gudkov became the second Russian general to be killed in 2025, the fifth in the last 12 months, and the sixteenth Russian general killed since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
