Lithuania did not let Russian trucks through/poglyad.tv
From – due to the entry into force of the ban on the transit of new types of Russian goods to Kaliningrad, Lithuania did not allow Russian trucks to pass.
The ban began to operate on Sunday, July 10. This was announced by the representative of the Lithuanian Customs Department Lina Laurinaitete-Grigene.
Lithuania did not let Russian trucks through
Due to the ban, Lithuania did not let 34 trucks in. According to Lina Laurinaitete-Grygiene:
- some of the trucks were carrying cargo through Belarus to Kaliningrad;
- the other part was trying to enter Lithuania from Kaliningrad.
Russian trucks were not allowed through because they tried to bring in auto parts, wood, furniture, alcoholic beverages and other goods.
The trucks deployed and returned to the Russian and Belarusian sides transported auto parts, timber and wood products, furniture, lubricants, glass, strong alcoholic beverages, customs officials said.
But already on July 10, the transitional period of the fifth round of EU sanctions against Russia. Therefore, it is forbidden to transport cement, alcohol, wood, glass, aluminum, paper products, gypsum and other goods of Russian origin through Lithuania.
What is known about the restrictions of Kaliningrad
- The EU was banned from transporting on its territory certain Russian goods. The Kaliningrad region has been the most restricted because it does not have a land connection with Russia and the only option there is to transport goods through Europe.
- Germany has suggested that the EU change these sanctions so as not to provoke the Kremlin. However, Lithuania agreed to this confrontation and banned the transportation of cement, alcohol and other goods through its territory.
- The Kremlin says that they will not yield and threaten Lithuania with “tough measures” in the coming days.
