Lightning hit the statue of Christ the Savior in Brazil: has this happened before

by alex

Stunning photos from Brazil have been circulating around the world recently. Lightning struck directly at the statue of Christ the Savior in Rio de Janeiro.

Experts say that this phenomenon is quite common. Therefore, there is no need to look for any mystical overtones.

Has this happened before

According to the Brazilian Space Research Institute, the statue is struck by lightning 4 to 6 times every year. One strike occurs about every 2-3 months, but during the rainy season it happens more often.

The fact that the statue attracts lightning is absolutely logical. It stands on one of the peaks, at a height of 710 meters, on a granite foundation.

The head of the atmospheric electricity group at the Institute, Dr. Osmar Pinto, notices that the statue has a lightning rod covering the top of the head, forming something like a wreath of thorns , and the cable reaches into the hands. Therefore, it is not surprising that it attracts lightning.

Recall that in 2014 the figure of Christ the Savior was also struck by lightning. Then the tip of the finger broke off at the sculpture, because the lightning hit it in the hand. At that time, a representative of the local diocese, Osmara Raposo, said that the figure would be restored.
