Germany told when the Ukrainian military will start training on Leopard 2. Ukraine can get them as early as next month.
Preparation will start next week. It will last approximately 6-8 weeks.
Ukrainians will start training on Leopard 2
Next week, training of Ukrainian military on Leopard tanks will begin in Germany 2. In the past few days, the country's air force has already delivered the first groups of defenders from Poland.
The training will take place at the Münster military training ground in Lower Saxony, where Ukrainian units are already training on the Marder infantry fighting vehicle. The German Ministry of Defense plans to conduct a kind of turbo training course for Ukrainian soldiers, some of whom arrive from the front line near Bakhmut.
In just 6 to 8 weeks, they will master the basics of controlling a complex weapon system, as well as work out the interaction of Leopard battle tanks and Marder infantry fighting vehicles. According to the soldiers, only the basics can be taught in a short time, since training usually takes several years.
If everything goes according to plan, trained soldiers will return to the front line with tanks at the end of March. Leopard 2 training is just one part of the various training programs for Ukrainian soldiers in Germany. Since the beginning of the war, about 1,500 Ukrainian soldiers have been trained on the systems that Berlin provided to our state. In particular, it is said about:
- Gepard anti-aircraft missile system,
- Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzer
Pay attention! On January 25, the German government approved the decision to provide Ukraine with Leopard 2 tanks for two battalions. At the first stage, the country wants to transfer 14 tanks. The rest of the cars should come from partner countries.
Scholz commented on the deliveries of Leopard 2
According to Ukrinform, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, commenting on the results of the EU summit, called the presence of President Volodymyr Zelensky at it “a very touching, emotional moment, a symbol of the will of Ukrainians to resist and a strong sign that the European Union and Ukrainians stand together.”
According to him, every Ukrainian can continue to rely on Germany – Berlin will support our state for as long as necessary. This concerns the European perspective of Ukraine.
Now it so happened that among the countries that have gathered here, Germany is making the greatest contribution to supporting Ukraine. In financial, humanitarian terms, as well as in the supply of weapons, the German chancellor said, recalling the provision of Leopard tanks.
Scholz hopes that by the end of March, Ukraine will be able to transfer two battalions, that is, about 80 Leopard 2 tanks. However, he believes that it will not be easy.
The Chancellor concluded that Berlin is trying to promote this issue with partners, create structures, train, organize the supply of spare parts and establish cooperation.
