On January 18, at the 101st year of his life, the legendary Hundred UPA Miroslav Simchich died. The day before, by presidential decree, he was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine.
The death of the legendary hundredth UPA was announced by the head of the Lviv OVA Maxim Kozitsky. In the last years of his life, Miroslav Simcic was very ill.

On January 5, Miroslav Simcic turned 100 years old. For more than 30 years, the legendary UPA spent hundreds of years in Soviet camps for fighting for a free Ukraine.

Miroslav Simchich distinguished himself in the Battle of Rushir near Kosmach against the NKVD and other Soviet divisions. The battle lasted 3 days, in which the centurion was injured, but continued to fight – after the victorious battle was over, Simchich lost consciousness from loss of blood.
Simchich gave his last fight in 1948, after which he was arrested and convicted for his activities in the UPA. In total, the Hero of Ukraine spent more than 32 years in concentration camps. The hundredth UPA was released in 1985, but even after the declaration of independence of Ukraine, the police of Zaporizhia “usually” came to check “a particularly dangerous criminal.” Miroslav Simchich was finally rehabilitated only in 2017.
Ukrainian military soldiers, who are now fighting for Ukraine the way the legendary UPA once did, have repeatedly appealed to the president with a request to give Miroslav Simchich the title of Hero of Ukraine . On the 80th anniversary of the creation of the UPA on October 14, 2022, Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a corresponding decree and awarded Simchich the title of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of the Golden Star.
