Sergey Lavrov
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that some Western countries, in particular Lithuania, are using the situation in Belarus and stirring it up. He stated this in an interview published on the agency's website.
According to the minister, Lithuania is in charge of the processes and uses the opposition of the republic “in the dark”. “The situation is tense due to the fact that the opposition, actively supported by some of our Western colleagues, is trying to challenge the election results, but I am convinced that the situation will soon return to normal,” the Foreign Minister stressed.
According to Lavrov, work to promote the integration processes of Belarus and Russia will soon resume. He called on the neighbors of the republic, especially Lithuania, “not to dictate their will” to the citizens of the country.
Protests in Belarus continue for six weeks. Their participants demand the resignation of Lukashenka, the holding of new elections and the punishment of the security officials responsible for the brutal dispersal of the demonstrators. The European Union refused to recognize the legitimacy of the President of Belarus; on the contrary, the Kremlin supported him.
