In Latvia, drivers will be fined for marking “I am Russian” ” and other symbols that express support or glorify Russian aggression against Ukraine.

The Latvian police released a corresponding message on September 25. They explained that these were “potentially provocative inscriptions in Russian.”

Latvia will punish for pro-Russian inscriptions

The state police, upon discovering vehicles covered with such inscriptions, will immediately order the persons to remove, and also explain the purpose and motivation for placing such an inscription. These persons may be subject to administrative liability, law enforcement officials said.

The Latvian police explained that any glorification of military aggression, including placing inscriptions in Russian on vehicles, for example “I am Russian/Russian”, means glorification of military aggression or support for war crimes committed by Russia in Ukraine.

They also asked people to report that they noticed a car with symbols glorifying Russian aggression.

It is worth noting that Latvia has stopped the passage of vehicles with Russian registration since September 12, 2023. Moreover, sometimes the police will even confiscate cars.
