Foreign Minister Affairs Dmitry Kuleba discussed with his French colleague Katrin Kolonna the increase in military assistance to Kyiv.

The column confirmed the full determination of France to strengthen support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression. We are talking about support at all levels and, in particular, the supply of military assistance.

In addition, diplomats spoke about the need to unblock the export of grain and oilseeds from Ukraine.

Note that a new government was appointed in France the day before. Kuleba immediately welcomed the new head of the Foreign Ministry. The discussion about Ukraine's path to EU membership, according to the minister, continues.

The topic of Ukraine's accession to the EU

Did they raise the topic of Ukraine's accession in the EU is unknown. Earlier, Kuleba noted that no matter what the headlines about Paris's position on Ukraine's accession to the EU, France provides us with weapons, supports sanctions and plays a leading role in many issues.

The diplomat is sure that there will be no “treason” with France, because no one will force us to do what we do not want.

Macron's “European community” project

In early May, French President Emmanuel Macron offered Ukraine and other countries an alternative option for integration into the European Union. The politician talks about other opportunities for cooperation: political, security, energy and transport, investment, infrastructure, border crossing.

However, according to Macron, joining the community would not mean mandatory accession to the EU in the future. The French president added that Ukraine and Great Britain could become the first contenders to join such a community. The idea of the French leader was supported by the head of the European Council Charles Michel.

President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized Macron's proposal. Ukraine will not agree to alternative options for integration with the EU, we do not need compromises. The head of state stressed that there could be no alternatives to the status of a candidate for EU membership. By the way, the Presidential Office expects Ukraine to receive such a status in June.
