The match lasted three sets and ended with the Ukrainian's defeat with a score of 4:6, 6:2, 7:6 (10:8).

The tennis players spent three hours and 58 minutes on the court, during which Kostyuk served four aces, made 27 winners and allowed fewer unforced errors than her opponent (36:50).

In the first set, Kostyuk lost two serves in a row to her opponent. In the eighth game, Marta made a break, but the Croatian took the set. Marta also started the second set with a lost serve, but made three breaks in a row and tied the score.
The decisive set was quite dramatic: the Ukrainian lost first on her serve in the seventh game, but tied the score in the tenth — 5:5. In the next two games, the opponents exchanged breaks and the match went to a tie-break.
The Ukrainian started well and led 4:0, but Vekic was able to fight back and take the lead. Kostyuk managed to win back a match point once, and Vekic twice. But in the end, the Croatian emerged victorious.
Thus, Marta Kostyuk ended her performance at her debut Olympics in 2024. The day before, she withdrew from the doubles tournament, where she played in a duet with Dayana Yastremska, due to a grueling match against Sakkari and the organizers' refusal to reschedule the doubles match.
In tennis, the only Ukrainians who continue to compete at the 2024 Olympics are Lyudmyla and Nadiya Kichenok, who reached the quarterfinals of the doubles tournament, defeating Americans Danielle Collins and Desiree Krawczyk.
