This was their first face-to-face meeting and quite a difficult one for the Ukrainian, because the host of the court was quite supported by her home crowd.
In the first set, the Ukrainian twice took the lead thanks to breaks, but each time the Frenchwoman managed to fight back. The winner of the first set was determined by a tie-break, in which Kostyuk gave her opponent only three points and won 7:3.
But the second set unfolded according to a different scenario. Kostyuk took the lead with two breaks, 5:1. However, Burel did not allow the Ukrainian to take another of her serves, so the tennis players finished the game with a score of 6:2 in favor of Kostyuk.
Marta's next opponent will be Greek tennis player Maria Sakkari. The match for reaching the quarterfinals of the 2024 Olympic Games is scheduled for July 31 at 13:00, preliminarily.
