After the plane crash with the Embraer 190 near Aktau, countries one after another began to cancel their flights to Russia. This time, flights to a number of cities in the aggressor country Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan have been suspended.

Kazakh airline suspends flights to Russian cities

Qazaq Air noted that they were forced to suspend flights on the Astana-Yekaterinburg route from December 28 of this year to January 27, 2025.

The company's press service noted that this decision was made for the “safety of passengers and crew members based on the results of an ongoing risk assessment of flights to Russia,”.

Qazaq Air said that it would continue to operate flights to Omsk and Novosibirsk, which “continue to meet the Qazaq Air risk assessment criteria,” and the resumption of flights to Yekaterinburg would be possible based on the results of a re-assessment of risks.

Azerbaijan also canceled flights to a number of regions of Russia

AZAL reported journalists that, based on the decision of the Azerbaijan State Civil Aviation Agency, from December 28, 2024, until the completion of the final investigation into the crash of the Embraer 190 aircraft, the company suspends flights from Baku to Russia.

We are talking about flights to airports in the following cities:

  • Mineralnye Vody;
  • Sochi;
  • Volgograd
  • Ufa
  • Samara.

Before this, on December 25, AZAL decided to suspend flights from Baku to Grozny and Makhachkala.

In connection with the situation, passengers who have tickets for these destinations have the right to a full refund or free ticket replacement.

By the way, against the backdrop of the plane crash with the Azerbaijani plane near Aktau, which could have been shot down by a Russian missile, the Israeli airline El Al also stopped flights to Russia. Flights between Tel Aviv and Moscow will not be operated within the next week.
