Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance says Trump is not going to pull the US out of NATO if he wins the election. However, in his opinion, it is important that the Alliance is not a “social client.”

JD Vance stated this in an interview with NBC News.

Will the US leave NATO if Trump wins?

So, JD Vance claims that Donald Trump wants to see NATO strong.

But he also wants NATO countries to actually bear their share of the defense burden, the candidate clarified.

Also, under pressure from the host, Vance was able to clearly answer the question about membership. “We will stay in NATO,” he said in an interview.

At the same time, without setting clear conditions for the United States to remain in NATO, Vance criticized the contribution to the Alliance. Vance especially singled out Germany, Europe's largest economy, which has often been the target of Trump's pressure during his presidency.

“It's effectively the United Kingdom, a few other countries, and the United States. The problem with NATO is that Germany in particular has to spend more on security, has to spend more on defense,” J.D. Vance said.

It should be noted that Europe is wary of Trump's return to the White House and is already preparing a plan in case of his victory. It includes developing “creative diplomatic and legal measures” to protect NATO priorities from the Trump administration. The problem is, however, that no one knows yet how the Republican will act.
