The Bundestag insists that Ukraine needs Soviet weapons, not the Marder BMP. However, over time, this paradigm will break down.
The head of the Center for Military Legal Research, Alexander Musienko, said this on Channel 24.
He has a certain restrained optimism, which is that we will manage to convince Germany.
An example would be our partners who declare their readiness to provide Ukraine with modern weapons, because Ukrainians are very motivated and ready to use them, – said Musienko.
Therefore, he believes that it is only “a matter of time.” In addition, Germany also does not have an unlimited arsenal of Soviet-style weapons.
“Therefore, I think that we will eventually break this paradigm and talk about providing more modern types of weapons. Not just Soviet, but also another production,” he stressed.
Ukraine needs heavy weapons
- On the eve of April 7, Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said that the war in Ukraine had entered a phase when victory needs qualitatively different assistance with weapons.
- Therefore, Ukraine would like to purchase Marder infantry fighting vehicles in Germany.
- However, the agreement is still blocked at the political level. At the same time, Germany must agree with the countries of Eastern Europe on the supply of Soviet weapons to Ukraine.
- However, Germany's position is changing. Already on April 11, the country's Foreign Ministry announced the need to provide weapons to Ukraine.
