“It ruins many plans,” Stupak assessed the threat from Orban to Ukraine’s European integration

“The EU will pose many questions to Ukraine, some of which, without exaggeration, will be difficult to fulfill. And even if Ukraine fulfills all the requests or ultimatums of Hungary, then Orban will find something to complain about. Unfortunately, he is a blackmailer,” noted the ex-SBU employee.

Pro-Russian narratives in European offices

The European Union has once again shown its unification around Ukraine and the fact that European countries understand the threats facing not only Ukraine, but also them. However, the position and behavior of Viktor Orban demonstrates that in the European Union there are pro-Russian politicians who can play along with the aggressor country on the issue of European integration.

The scale of Viktor Orban’s personality is much larger than the scale some personalities combined in the European Union. The Prime Minister of Hungary is charismatic and a dictatorial type of politician.

“Orbán opposes the entire European Union, using his influence and charisma. He is rushing like the Titanic, but sooner or later he will hit an iceberg in the European Union. This iceberg will most likely be Ukraine,” Stupak added.

How Orban is preventing Ukraine from receiving assistance from EU

• The Hungarian Prime Minister vetoed a long-term budget assistance program for Ukraine regarding the allocation of 50 billion euros. Now European politicians will be able to consider this issue only at the beginning of 2024.
• At the same time, the President of the European Council Charles Michel said after the vote that, despite the Hungarian veto, Ukraine will still receive help. After all, EU members managed to build a unified position of support for Kyiv.
• The EU may choose a different way of providing financial assistance to Ukraine. The 26 member states in favor of providing support will simply allocate funds from their national budgets and transfer them to Ukraine. Behind the scenes they are convinced that this is not a problematic issue.
