NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the Ukrainian defense of Bakhmut could be defeated in the coming days. The Armed Forces of Ukraine commented on the words of the Secretary General of the Alliance.

The speaker of the Eastern Group of Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Sergei Cherevaty, responded to Stoltenberg's statement on the air of the telethon. Channel 24 writes about this.

Cherevaty recalled the statements of the West at the beginning of the invasion

In particular, Cherevaty noted that he had some experience in dealing with experts from NATO headquarters. The military officer noted that the Alliance had something to do with the war in the former Yugoslavia. However, the scale of this conflict differs from the situation in Ukraine, said the representative of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

They are accustomed to such stabilization missions, training, peacekeeping. Therefore, in my opinion: it is difficult for them to understand the wars here. They approach this with purely pragmatic, dry calculations. Sometimes they don’t understand that the Ukrainians have developed much greater stability, non-standard, much more powerful tactical solutions in such a super-powerful military conflict for a year already,” the speaker said.

Cherevaty stressed that such statements should be treated with respect. However, he believes that NATO does not fully understand the situation. He remembered how, at the beginning of the war, the West was counting the hours until Kyiv collapsed.

What Stoltenberg said about Bakhmut

  • NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on March 8 that the Ukrainian defense of Bakhmut could be defeated in the coming days. He noted that for several months Russia has been throwing all new manpower and equipment into this direction.
  • He calls on the West to step up aid to Ukraine so that the likely loss of Bakhmut does not become a turning point in the war.
  • Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar noted that forecasting military actions is a thankless task. Malyar stressed that the battles in Bakhmut exhaust the enemy and urged to trust only the military.
  • The daily report of the Institute for the Study of War notes that the occupying troops occupied the eastern part of Bakhmut after a controlled tactical retreat of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, they have no prospects for serious success in this direction.
