The Russian Askold launch vehicle was significantly damaged as a result of a missile attack on the Zaliv shipyard in temporarily occupied Kerch in Crimea. Repairs will cost Russia much more than building a new ship to wage war against Ukraine.
This was stated by the head of the joint coordination press center of the Defense Forces, Natalya Gumenyuk, in a comment to Ukrainian journalists. It is likely that the Askold launch vehicle will not be restored after damage, suggested the OK South speaker.
— A cruel joke has been played: Askold’s grave has worked. Probably, indeed, he will be buried, because he was beheaded. What is called the superstructure in shipbuilding has been demolished, that is, the head has definitely been torn off. Restoring it will be a more expensive project than building a new ship,” Gumenyuk noted.
According to the OK South speaker, the Askold launch vehicle will definitely not be able to participate in the war against Ukraine in the near future.
