It all depends on Johnson: when Ukraine can receive help from the United States

by alex

In the USA, for several months they have not been able to reach an agreement on the allocation of assistance Ukraine in the amount of more than 60 billion dollars. However, according to Western media reports, a new bill is being prepared in Congress.

Voting for the new draft law may take place around mid-March – early April. Political scientist Vladimir Fesenko told 24 Channel, that Speaker of the House Mike Johnson still plays an important role in this issue.

There is a fallback

The political scientist explained that the US budget for 2024 must first be adopted, because it has not been agreed upon for six months. The vote on the budget is due to take place on March 8.

If this bill is voted for, then the issue of international assistance, including to Ukraine, will be considered.

We are talking about a new bill that is being developed by Republicans and Democrats. They propose to provide reduced assistance to Kyiv.

We can only receive military support – without budgetary assistance. However, at the same time, vote on increasing spending on the border between the United States and Mexico,” Fesenko noted.

As is known, the border issue is the cornerstone of the conflict between Republicans and Democrats, which is slowing down the acceptance of assistance to Ukraine.

If this decision is made, Ukraine, according to Fesenko, will be able to receive assistance in April.

Speaker Mike Johnson met with representatives of the Republican Party who are participating in the development of a new bill. At the same time, Johnson did not commit to bringing the document to a vote, insisting that a decision on government funding must be made first.

It is not yet clear whether Republican Mike Johnson will put this bill to a vote. Previously, he did not put bills from Joseph Biden and the Senate to a vote, noted Vladimir Fesenko.

This corresponds to the election strategy of Donald Trump, who opposes any compromises with Biden.
