Russian occupiers built a 30-kilometer “Tsar Train” in the temporarily occupied area of the Donetsk region. Analysts suggested that the occupiers could build it as a defensive line against future Ukrainian offensives.

The occupiers placed the train between Yelenovka and Volnovakha in the occupied Donetsk region. It is only 6 kilometers from the current front line.

Analysts have suggested why the Russians need a 30-kilometer “Tsar Train”< /h2>

Experts from the American Institute for the Study of War noticed that satellite images from May 10, 2023 and from February 6 and 10, 2024 indicate that the occupiers over the past 9 months have built a long line of carriages stretching from occupied Elenovka to Volnovakha.

Analysts, citing Ukrainian data from DeepState, noted that:

  • Russian troops assembled more than 2,100 freight cars into a 30-kilometer train;
  • occupiers began assembling the train in July 2023;
  • Russian troops probably intend to use the train as a line of defense against future Ukrainian attacks.

The railway line between Elenovka and Volnovakha is located approximately six kilometers from the current front line, which , according to ISW, extends southeast of Novomikhailovka at its closest point and lies on a front that was relatively inactive when Russian troops reportedly began construction, experts said.

They also remembered that Russian troops had recently made minor territorial gains in the area. That is why ISW suggests that Russia could assemble the train for other purposes.

What Deep State analysts wrote about the enemy train

  • Deep State analysts wrote that the occupiers began building the train back in July 2023. Cars for it were transported from temporarily occupied territories.
  • Experts explained that in fact this is a very specific engineering structure, the effectiveness of which is difficult to assess.
  • Deep State named the Russians’ plan – they want to prevent the advance of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. After all, this structure can well be considered as a separate line of defense. First of all, because it is extremely difficult to damage, move or explode a 30-kilometer mass of metal, and equipment can only move if a corridor is broken through.
