Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah of Israel's plans to eliminate him. He advised him to leave Lebanon.

Reuters reports. Warning came days before the Israeli strike that killed Nasrallah.

Hassan Nasrallah was told of plans to assassinate him

Immediately after a series of pager explosions targeting members of the Iranian-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah on September 17, Ali Khamenei conveyed a message to Nasrallah through an envoy that Israel has operatives in Hezbollah and they intend to eliminate him.

Tehran is currently concerned about the infiltration of Israeli agents into the highest echelons of power in Iran.

The envoy chosen was a senior commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Brigadier General Abbas Nilforoushan. He was with Nasrallah in the bunker when the Israeli bombs hit it, and he was also killed.

Reference. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is a political, military, and economic force in Iran that has close ties to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The IRGC has its own ground forces, navy, and air force, and controls Iran's strategic weapons. The IRGC is influential in the Middle East and helps allies such as Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the Houthis in Yemen and militias in Iraq.

Iran has expressed concerns about the safety of Ali Khamenei, which is leading to a loss of trust among both Hezbollah members and Iranian political circles. According to Reuters sources, this situation could complicate the effective work of Iran's “Axis of Resistance” alliance, which unites armed groups against Israel.

“In essence, Iran has lost the largest investment it has had in decades,” summed up Hezbollah expert from the Swedish Defense University Magnus Ranstorp.
