Iran to return to talks after Israeli attacks end – MFA

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran was ready to resume diplomatic efforts to discuss its nuclear program only after Israel stopped its attacks.

He stated this today in Geneva after talks with the foreign ministers of European countries, AFP reports.

During the meeting, European diplomats insisted on a speedy resumption of negotiations between Iran and the United States on the Iranian nuclear program.

In response, Araghchi said that any return to diplomatic dialogue would only be possible after Israel's attacks stopped.

“Iran is ready to consider diplomatic measures again as soon as the aggression (of Israel – Ed.) is stopped and the aggressor is held accountable for the crimes committed,” the head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry said.

He did not specify what specific actions should be taken to hold Israel accountable, but confirmed Iran's interest in further negotiations with Western partners.

“We support the continuation of negotiations with Great Britain, France, Germany and the European Union and express our readiness for new meetings in the near future,” Araghchi added.

Recall that US President Donald Trump previously stated that within two weeks he would decide whether the US would participate in Israel's strikes on Iran.

European leaders are now hoping to avoid further escalation. In Geneva, French President Emmanuel Macron presented Iran with a new four-point proposal to restart the diplomatic process.
