The first initiators of the international investigation into Russia were the Baltic countries, then colleagues from Britain, Poland and our long-term partners from Western Europe joined. If this were not the case, it would be necessary to introduce certain previous mechanisms that would take time.

The Minister of Justice of Ukraine Denis Malyuska spoke about this on the air of Channel 24. He also added that we were lucky that we had the support of our partners, which accelerated the procedure for the consideration of the case in The Hague. It would be a preliminary consideration of the case by the judges of the International Criminal Court, – stressed Malyuska.

Is it possible to convict the Russians in absentia

The Minister of Justice also added that the investigation has already begun, the relevant actions are carried out by the prosecutors of the International Criminal Court. In order for the first accused Russians to get there, they must at least be brought to trial.

The International Criminal Court does not hear cases in absentia. Accordingly, the partner countries and we not only collect evidence, but also “catch” war criminals in order to bring them to court, Denis Malyuska assured.
