Invaders have achieved minor success at Severodonetsk, but are unlikely to go further, – ISW

Battle for Donbass/Ukrainska Pravda

The Russian invaders had little success from the encirclement of Severodonetsk over the past day, they moved north through Zolote.

The situation in the east of Ukraine

Experts noted that the Russian invaders stepped up their offensive in the area of Liman and Avdiivka and succeeded on 23 May. Fierce fighting is underway in Liman, because the Russians want to cut off Ukrainian defenders from logistics supplies in this direction.

Also, the Russian invaders significantly increased the shelling of Avdiivka. The Institute for the Study of War predicts that Russian troops are likely to make further minor gains west of Popasna in the near future, but are unlikely to be able to capture Bakhmut quickly, if at all.

Russian troops are likely to reinforce his grouping north of Kharkov to prevent the further advance of the Ukrainian counter-offensive to the Russian border. Russian troops may soon send units of the 1st tank army to the north of Kharkov.

Severodonetsk direction

Russian sources also claimed that infidels were able to clear the settlement of Shchedrishchevo, located directly northeast of Severodonetsk, and are now fighting in the vicinity of the city.

ISW reports that Russian troops stormed Zolote and took control of the points entrance to the city, this allows you to push to the north and complete the cordon of Severodonetsk from the south.

Popasna

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that Russian troops are trying to break through the Ukrainian defenses in the Popasna area, in particular, around Toshkovka, Kamyshevakha, Pochechnoye, Vasilyevka, Novaya Kamenka and Mironovsky, presumably trying to push west towards Bakhmut.

Ukrainian forces are reported to have withdrawn west of Vladimirovka towards Soledar, indicating that Russian troops are advancing west of Popasna, in contrast to the priority advance north to Severodonetsk.

Bakhmut

In addition, Russian troops have succeeded near the administrative border of Donetsko th and Lugansk region and took control of the village of Mironovsky southeast of Bakhmut. The capture of Mironovsky will allow continuing attempts to advance into Bakhmut both from the south and from the west.
