On January 4, drones attacked several targets on Russian territory at once. In particular, we are talking about the Ust-Luga sea trade port in the Leningrad region and the Avangard plant in the Smolensk region.

In a conversation with Channel 24, military expert, pilot instructor and retired Ukrainian Armed Forces Colonel Roman Svitan explained the features of the latest attack and what significance the objects that were attacked have for the aggressor.

What is special about the drone attack on Russia on January 4

Most likely, there was one large-scale combined drone attack, which was carried out with several tasks at once. Some drones went north from the general direction to the Leningrad region, others – along the “Avangard” to the Smolensk region.

This is the right preparation – sending a large number of drones in one direction is optimal, because the Russians do not have enough frontal air defense density to cover any of the directions. Therefore, it is better to fly in a swarm, and then, depending on how many drones remain, distribute them among the targets, – explained Svitan.

The Smolensk region of Russia was under attack by drones on the night of January 4. The network reports that the attack could have targeted the Avangard plant, which manufactures rocket engine housings and transport and launch containers.

There is confirmation of the hit. The only question is about the extent of the damage, the military expert noted.

At the same time, on January 4, drones attacked Russia's largest sea trade port of Ust-Luga. The Center for Countering Disinformation noted that this port has become an instrument for Russia's economic and military survival in conditions of isolation.

The port of Ust-Luga has become one of the mechanisms for loading the so-called shadow fleet of Russia. Oil that enters this port is loaded into tankers and sent to consumers, Svitan said.

However, according to the military expert, the destruction of the Druzhba oil pipeline would deal a more serious blow to Russia. Note that on January 5, drones likely attacked the Druzhba oil pipeline in the village of Desna in the Vygonichsky District of the Bryansk Region.
