Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Explodes During Test in Russia – Defense Express

An RS-28 Satan or even Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile likely exploded in Russia.

Defense Express reports this, citing satellite images from OSINT analysts.

A Satan or Sarmat missile exploded in Russia

Let us recall that on the night of September 21, the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck the Tikhoretsk arsenal in the Krasnodar Territory and the 23rd arsenal of the Main Artillery Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Defense near the settlement of Oktyabrsky in the Tver Region.

Subsequently, information began to spread on the Internet that the Ukrainian military allegedly destroyed the Russian intercontinental ballistic missile RS-28 Satan or even Sarmat. However, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces did not confirm these rumors.

However, today, September 22, satellite images appeared on the Internet that indicate that an RS-28 or even Sarmat missile actually exploded in Russia. But, as Defense Express notes, this happened under completely different circumstances and does not concern the September 21 attacks.

One of the OSINT analysts MT_Anderson published a satellite image of the Russian Plesetsk cosmodrome on his X (Twitter) page.

The footage shows the result of a failed test of a Russian intercontinental ballistic missile, probably between September 20 and 22 of this year.

It is noted that the launch of the missile, which was unsuccessful, took place from a silo launcher. As a result of a large-scale explosion, only a crater remained at the site of the launch pad.

Defense Express explained that the explosion of an intercontinental missile during a test launch is a disaster that can happen once every half a century.

Consequently, the previous similar incident occurred in October 1960 at the Baikonur Cosmodrome during the first test launch of the R-16 intercontinental ballistic missile.
