In Vinnitsa, a cadet of the Kharkov National University of Internal Affairs, Artem Makarov, saved an 8-year-old boy from the river, whom his mother was trying to drown.

The Vinnytsia region police reported this.

What is known about the incident

The incident occurred on the afternoon of April 15th. The cadet was walking along the embankment of the Southern Bug River and heard the cry of a child.

According to Artyom, he saw a woman pushing a boy into the river, and then, plunging into the water with him, trying to drown him.

— The guy was not taken aback, instantly jumped into the river and pulled the child ashore. The boy was hospitalized with complete hypothermia, — says the police report.

Law enforcement officers detained the child’s 40-year-old mother. The woman was informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 15, paragraph 2, part 2, art. 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (attempted murder of a minor). The sanction of the article provides for punishment of up to fifteen years in prison or life imprisonment.

Boy's condition

As the head of the juvenile prevention department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Vinnytsia region, Inna Mikhailovskaya, told Suspilny, everything is fine with the child, the father comes to see the guy in the hospital.

— In the future, decisions will be made on the return of the child to the family and further psychological assistance, — noted by Inna Mikhailovskaya.

According to Natalya Dobrovolskaya, director of the city center for social services, the family was not registered. There is another child in the family who is in 7th grade.

Mother's trial

Suspilne, citing sources, reported that on April 17, the Vinnitsa City Court chose a preventive measure for the woman in the form of placement in a psychiatric institution under conditions that precluded dangerous behavior of the suspect.
