Why is it proposed to cancel the celebration of March 8 and May 1 and 9
People's deputies propose to abolish the celebration of March 8 of International Women's Day. The authors of the bill explained this by the fact that it was established by the occupying Moscow regime in order to popularize their own view of the role and place of women. Instead of March 8, they propose to create a holiday of the Day of the Ukrainian Woman on February 25, on the birthday of Lesya Ukrainka.
They also want to celebrate the birthday of Taras Shevchenko on March 9 on the weekend.
In addition, it is planned to cancel the day off 1st of May. In May, they propose to pay attention to the celebration of Mother's Day.
As for May 9, people's deputies propose to cancel it as the Day of Victory over Nazism. If the initiative is accepted, May 8 will be the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation, which will not be a red day on the calendar.
