Almost two hundred settlements in the central and western part of Ukraine were left without electricity due to a stormy wind that cut off power lines. A message about this appeared on the website of the State Emergency Service of the country.

According to the department, the main blow of the disaster fell on the Chernihiv region, there were 54 villages without electricity, and the Kiev region – 32 villages. Villages in Zhytomyr, Poltava, Ternopil, Vinnytsia and Khmelnytsky regions also suffered. In total, by the morning of February 5, 189 settlements remained without electricity.

According to forecasters, bad weather during the day will gradually shift to the west of the country and the threat of power line blackout will disappear. The timing of the restoration of the light supply has not yet been reported.

In December 2019, Ukraine adopted a bill that amends the law “On the Electricity Market”. In particular, it provides for a ban on the import of electricity from Russia under bilateral agreements. Nevertheless, on February 1, Kiev resumed buying electricity from Moscow. The supply capacity is 200 megawatt-hours.
