In the US, a police officer shot a woman 5 times after she allegedly cut his face with a knife. 33-year-old Sydney Wilson died in hospital on September 16. Now, footage from the police officer's body cameras has been released.

The officer arrived at the call to check if everything was in order with security, since the police had previously received a message from a psychological counselor that Sydney was in an “excited state.” So he went to check on her.

Bodycam video shows Officer Peter Liu approaching the apartment door, knocking, waiting, and then Wilson opening the door – saying “hi” twice before closing the door again.

Liu continued knocking and asking Wilson to open the door. When Wilson opened the door again three minutes later, she asked “how are you doing” before picking up the knife and lunging at Liu.

“Jesus Christ,” Liu said and retreated into the hallway as Wilson followed, still waving the knife. The officer then pointed his gun at Wilson and ordered her to “back off” several times, the footage shows.

When Wilson lunged at the officer again, he fired two shots and fired three more times when Wilson appeared to still be moving toward him before she fell to the ground.

Wilson was originally from Pennsylvania but lived in Reston. She worked as a leasing operations manager at JLL Mid-Atlantic in Washington.

County police said Liu acted in an appropriate manner. The sheriff has now been placed on “limited duty” with another department as the investigation into the shooting continues.
