Today, a modern biogas power plant has been put into operation at the solid domestic waste landfill in the village of Bolshie Gribovichi, Lviv region. It pumps gas from the landfill and turns it into electricity.

As Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy noted, thanks to this decision, the landfill, which everyone perceived as a problem and a threat, turned into a source of clean energy, Channel 24 reports.

Landfill reclamation in village

A project that will bring funds to the city

Sadovyi said that the installation of a biogas power plant helped to comprehensively solve the issue of waste management in Lviv.

“Installation, which is starting to work is an example of how, in spite of everything, we work, create new jobs and pay taxes. It also improves the environment in the region,” he stressed.

The Lviv City Council noted that the biogas power plant was built as part of a joint project between Naftogaz Ukrainy and Clear Energy.

We should also mention people who during the war , during a very unstable economy, they dare to take on new projects and thereby make Ukraine stronger,” Sadovyi wrote in his telegram channel.

According to the city council, technical reclamation continues: degassing, construction of a leachate treatment system and formation of a landfill body.

“Thanks to the biogas power plant built here, 38 hectares of landfill, which emits millions of cubic meters of harmful landfill gas, will become a source of energy for the surrounding households. According to our calculations, thanks to this facility, more than 2 million times 3 will not enter the atmosphere into the atmosphere, which harms the climate more than carbon dioxide” , – said Yuriy Vitrenko, Chairman of the Board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine.

It is expected that the operation of the biogas power plant will be able to produce more than 800 thousand cubic meters of gas per year, and “green” energy will serve at least 735 families in the near future. time.

Recall that the document signed by Sadov on financing the landfill reclamation project included:

  • A 13-year loan from the EBRD in the amount of $ 20 million guaranteed by the city,
