In the Carpathians, a winter fairy tale that hides danger: avalanches are possible

It is very beautiful and snowy in the mountains now, but the danger of snow avalanches remains. Rescuers declared the third level of danger.

People are asked to refrain from hiking in the mountains, because a significant avalanche danger is expected. Employees of the State Emergency Service warn about this.

Winter fairy tale in the mountains

The State Emergency Service notes that today it is quite cloudy on Mount Pip Ivan Chernogorsky, visibility is no more than 20 meters. The air temperature is -10 degrees, and the western wind is 9 meters per second.

Therefore, rescuers are turning to people with a request to give up walking in the mountains for a while.

Avalanches are also expected on March 7. According to the forecast of the Ukrhydrometeorological center, there will be snowfalls and blizzards in the mountains tomorrow. A significant avalanche danger is expected in the highlands of Ivano-Frankivsk and Transcarpathian regions.

If you are carried away and blown away by an avalanche: advice from rescuers

If a person ends up in the mountains during an avalanche, rescuers give some advice:

  • do not panic and try not to fall asleep;
  • do not shout – the snow completely absorbs sounds, besides, the cry will deprive you of strength, oxygen and heat;
  • perform swimming movements and keep to the edge of the avalanche – there is less movement speed;
  • if the avalanche has stopped, then try to create space around the face and chest – this will help you breathe freely;
  • remember that rescuers know from an avalanche, but the search may take some time.
