What Russia is doing in the occupied part of Kherson
In March, the Russian military managed to occupy Kherson and several other settlements in the region. Explosions constantly sound in the Kherson region.
The invaders also kidnap local officials, activists, journalists and men of military age. According to preliminary data, Russia plans to hold a pseudo-referendum in Kherson.
President Volodymyr Zelensky warned Russia that a referendum in the Kherson region would nullify the peace talks.
Russian troops seized the premises of the Kherson City Council on April 25. The invaders held a special “meeting” at which they introduced the so-called “heads” of the Kherson regional and city administrations.
Also, the occupation authorities of Kherson plan to “move into the ruble zone.” According to them, “the transitional period will take up to 4 months.” Ukrainian Ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova said that this was an act of annexation by Russia.
