A teenager from Lysichansk was rescued/Press Service of the First Medical Association of Lviv
In the Lviv Children's Hospital of St. Nicholas, surgeons saved a 13-year-old boy from Lisichansk. A 4-centimeter fragment passed through his neck and chest and settled in his lungs.
Doctors reported that this was a fatal injury. It is a miracle that the main vessels were not damaged, and the boy did not die on the spot.
It is known that the fragment hit the neck above the right collarbone, passed the upper opening of the chest, through the entire lung and stopped above the diaphragm in the lower segments right lung.
It is good that assistance was immediately provided for tamping the wound with drainage. In this state, he was evacuated by train to us. The operation was very difficult, because the entire lung was affected, which simply turned into a hematoma, but everything went well, – said pediatric surgeon Dmitry Gritsak.
How the boy suffered
The mother of 13-year-old Svyatoslav Elena Rychkova recalled that this happened on May 9. Then the Russians were celebrating Victory Day in the Luhansk region and shelling almost did not stop in Lisichansk. The mother, son and husband were with their grandmother, but when it became a little quieter, they went home to another area.
“It happened right near our house, a rocket and an explosion flew in. At first they did not understand what had happened, the man rushed to the injured neighbor, and I returned to Svyatik and I see a torn wound on his neck and blood is pouring. I immediately pressed that place with my hand and knew that in no case should I let go, ”the boy’s mother recalled.
The woman added that the neighbors helped her get to the ambulance, and from there the military took her to Bakhmut to the hospital. There, the doctors said that the situation was very difficult, and they would not be able to perform the necessary operation.
Svyatoslav spent 10 days in intensive care, despite the fact that the operation was successful. However, the lung did not start for a long time, because it was in critical condition, so the boy was under the apparatus. After two bronchoscopies, the patient's breathing was restored and he was recently transferred to a regular ward.
What else is known about the family
The family has three sons, of which Svyatoslav is the smallest. His 28-year-old older brother, who lived in Boyarka, Kyiv region, is considered missing. The last time he got in touch was on March 10.
“According to the military, his documents were found, but there were none among the dead and wounded. His wife is now with small children in Sumy. However, in the near future she plans to leave for Poland to save children from the war, which has already brought so much grief to the family. We hope that now Svyatik will recover and we will definitely find his brother,” the mother said.
