The sonar of the aggressor country was detected by a local resident. He saw the inscriptions in Russian and turned to the Lithuanian Navy.

The incident occurred on the Curonian Spit, which stretches from the Russian Zelenogradsk to the Lithuanian Klaipeda. The Lithuanian Navy received a message about the discovery from a local resident on July 3.

How the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense reacted

The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense reported that the device was not working at the time of discovery. It was seized and transferred to the custody of the Navy. Experts have determined that this is a Russian-style sonar, which is used to collect intelligence information, detect submarines and determine their position.

The department noted that similar Russian hydroacoustic sonars have already been discovered in 2021. They were found in the Baltic Sea off the coast of Lithuania and in the Atlantic Ocean off the southern coast of Great Britain and Ireland. The Ministry of Defense called on residents and guests of Lithuania to be vigilant and, if such objects are found, not to touch them, but to report to the Navy.
