In Kyiv, they said goodbye to the Ukrainian defender Roman “Yashka” Kosenko

by alex

The life of a brave defender of Ukraine with the call sign “Yashka” in Izyum was cut short by a cruise missile at the beginning of a full-scale invasion, on March 9th. However, only after the city was liberated from occupation, it was found and returned home to say goodbye and be sent on its last journey with dignity.

Roman Kosenko believed in the victory of Ukraine and made every effort since 2014 to her achievements. He was a member of the Maidan, a volunteer and served in the special forces.

Roman Kosenko was one of those who care

Roman was known to the military, who defended the Donetsk airport in 2014-2015, and there were legends about him in Pisky, because he risked his life aiming our artillery at enemy positions, although he did not participate in the liberation of the city. He also spent a week on the tower, which was called the Sky.

Please note. Izyum has been under occupation since the beginning of April 2022.

Before the war, an active man was a cook by profession and a traveler by heart. He also visited Russia, so in an interview with Censor.NET he said that the contrast between our states is like between black and white. Russia is a country where at the checkpoint they ask not about travel or documents, but about what Ukraine has done for Russia and when it will pay for gas.

Russia is a country where people are rude and frozen in the “scoop,” he said.

And he was also the one who didn't care. Therefore, he actively supported the Maidan and was in the whirlpool of events during the Revolution of Dignity. As he himself admitted, he went home to sleep only when he fell ill. And even then he understood that over time, Russia would send troops.

The beginning of the revolution found him in Georgia.

All my friends came to the rallies, and the katsaps laughed at this: “What, crests, do you want to go to Europe?” It was disgusting to hear this, although I still did not quite understand the situation. Yes, we do. So what? Roman recalled

On Euromaidan, he distributed his food to those who needed it more, miraculously escaped the night of beating students, because he took the girl to a safe place and guarded the House of Trade Unions. And in the first days of the war he went to the East, where there was already an army of Ukraine, but there were no trenches or fortifications. And without a doubt he went to scouts, although he was warned that “reconnaissance is a one-way road.”

When the reconnaissance returned from Peski, he stayed to help the attack aircraft. Then he occupied the tower, from which he corrected the artillery fire, then went to the Donetsk airport. A little later, he signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

On September 15, 2015, Roman Kosenko was awarded the Order of the People's Hero of Ukraine in Zhytomyr. It is not surprising that from the beginning of a full-scale invasion, he and his brothers went to the front, to Izyum. There he remained under the rubble after the Russian air raid, and the next day after the liberation of this town by the Ukrainian army, his friend dug up the body of the deceased for six hours with his hands.
