A terrible incident occurred in one of the prefectures of Japan. On October 31, a man took hostages at the post office. This was preceded by a shooting that he carried out in the hospital.

According to available information, this happened in the Japanese prefecture of Saitama. There, a man took an unknown number of people hostage in a post office.

What is known about the incident

The media write that the man fled to the post office in the city of Warabi and barricaded himself there. This happened after he started shooting with a pistol at a hospital in the neighboring city of Toda. These two cities are located in Saitama Prefecture near Tokyo.

Local authorities appealed to residents. They were urged to exercise caution and cooperate with law enforcement.

A message appeared on the Toda city page on the X network. It said “some people were injured.” The incident is said to have occurred around 1:10 p.m. local time.

The shooter was described and noted to be a man between 40 and 50 years old. He is about 1.6 meters tall. The attacker fled the scene on a motorcycle. He was wearing a black jacket and pants and a motorcycle helmet.

Meanwhile, broadcaster NHK noted that law enforcement officers heard sounds similar to gunshots at Toda Central Hospital. Police say two men, ages 40 and 60, were injured. They are in a stable condition.

They say that as of 14:15 the man was still “hunkering down” in the post office. The city authorities of Warabi reported this on their page on the X network.

The suspect is carrying a weapon that appears to be a pistol. For your safety, we ask that you evacuate the area where the incident occurred and follow the instructions given by police officers at the scene,” the City of Warabi said in a separate statement.

And in the very next message, the authorities of the city of Warabi described the situation as “an incident involving the escape of a man with a deadly weapon.”
