< strong _ngcontent-sc88="">Finland does not rule out a Russian attack. Moreover, in recent decades, the country has been preparing to resist Russian aggression.

So Finland is ready to fight if this happens. This statement was made by the commander of the Finnish Defense Forces, General Timo Kivinen.

He stressed that his country had built a significant arsenal, but the motivation of the Finns was decisive and added that even after joining NATO, Finland itself would still bear the main responsibility for the defense of Finland.

We systematically developed our military defense specifically for the type of hostilities that are being conducted there (in Ukraine – Channel 24), with the massive use of firepower, armored vehicles, and aviation,” Kivinen said.

Finland's path to NATO and Russia's reaction

Finland and Sweden together applied for NATO membership on 18 May. Less than 2 weeks earlier, on May 4, a Russian Mi-17 flew twice without authorization into Finnish airspace.

According to the Finnish Border Guard, the first airspace violation occurred in Kitei, located in the North Karelian region, and the second, less than 100 kilometers away, in Rautjärve, located in South Karelia.

A Russian military helicopter flew into the airspace over Kitee to a depth of about 700 meters, and over Rautjärva to 500 meters. It is noted that the violation of the airspace occurred during the patrol by a Russian helicopter of the border from Russia.

Note that the aggressor country very painfully perceived Finland's intention to join NATO. After all, Vladimir Putin called the non-expansion of the Alliance in Ukraine one of the plans for a “special operation” – in fact, a war – in Ukraine. Meanwhile, the opposite happened – both Finland and Sweden “asked” to NATO.

Interesting! The head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, General Mark Milley, said that if Finland and Sweden join Alliance, Russia will find itself in a difficult military situation in the Baltic Sea.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that they have prepared a “surprise” for Finland because of the desire to join NATO. She noted that their response would be military, but did not provide other details.
