According to the SBU, the guy initially lived in Lugansk, but moved to Cherkassy before the full-scale invasion to study at the university.
Russian intelligence agencies turned their attention to the student when he was looking for quick money through instant messengers.
After being recruited remotely, the agent began transmitting information to the enemy about the results of the shelling: he photographed the impact sites and compiled detailed reports for his handlers.
Subsequently, the tasks became more complicated – the traitor had to identify the location of the radars of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
This information was planned to be used for attacks that would bypass air defense systems.
In addition, the agent monitored the building of the regional administration of the National Police, studying the security system of the strategic facility.
SBU counterintelligence officers prevented espionage activities at an early stage.
During a search of the suspect's home, a mobile phone was found with a prepared report for Russian curators.
Currently, the traitor is suspected of high treason under martial law (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The court chose a preventive measure for him in the form of detention. For his actions, he faces life imprisonment and confiscation of all property.
This is far from the first case of Ukrainians becoming Russian agents for money.
Earlier, the SBU detained a Russian agent who was preparing missile strikes on Ukrainian Armed Forces airfields in the Rivne region.
The perpetrator was detained while filming the outer perimeter of the military facility.
