In 2024, the Ukrainian Defense Forces will switch to strategic defense along the entire front.
Retired Lieutenant General, ex-Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Igor Romanenko spoke about this during a round table meeting on the topic: Military campaign of the Russian-Ukrainian war 2023: lessons for Ukraine and conclusions for the next year.
He noted that Ukraine and Russia still have the resources to continue the war, but the fate of the fighting remains uncertain, as it was last year.

“In the global dimension, the counteroffensive, at least not yet, has not brought fundamental changes, and obviously the West was not ready for this, and this is reflected in assistance from the West,” said the lieutenant general.
According to Romanenko, the lack of an action plan on the Ukrainian side in case none of the predicted scenarios come true, and the prospects for political negotiations remain unrealistic, led to the fact that the allies basically did not approve new significant programs for the supply of heavy weapons to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“I see the prospects for the end of this year and next that we will have to switch to strategic defense on the entire front, as well as accumulate forces and means, and, based on their availability, formulate plans for further actions for 2024,” he added.
War in Ukraine
According to experts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), on November 15, Ukrainian troops continued larger-than-usual operations on the left bank of the Dnieper in the Kherson region.
The Russian military claimed that Ukrainian forces launched unsuccessful attacks from the center of Krynok (30 km northeast of Kherson, 2 km from the Dnieper River).
The head of the joint press center of the Operational Command South, Natalya Gumenyuk, said that Ukrainian troops are pushing Russian forces back to a distance of three to eight kilometers from the eastern bank of the Dnieper in the Kherson region.
