Since the beginning of 2024, a huge area of forest has burned in the aggressor country. As the media notes, instead of spending money on extinguishing fires, the government is investing it in the war in Ukraine.

Busy with wiping Ukraine off the face of the earth, the aggressor country does not notice how it itself is rapidly “burning”. In just six months, an area of forest in Russia has burned out that is larger than the territory of Croatia.

Russia's Large-Scale Forest Losses

Russian media have calculated that 9.4 million hectares of territory have burned out in the aggressor country since the beginning of the year. This is equal to the area of Hungary or Portugal. Of this, 5.9 million hectares are burned forest.

The largest number of fires has engulfed Yakutia. It was there that 2 million hectares of forest burned out. There are also many fires in the Transbaikal Territory, Amur Region and Buryatia.

As investigators note, 60 hectares of forest burn in Russia every minute.

Meanwhile, Russia is cutting spending on ecology and forest conservation, in particular by 11 percent in 2024. But the Kremlin spends these funds on maintaining the occupied territories and weapons. The money will go to drones for war and “new territories”.

A reduction in budget expenditures on the development of forest protection infrastructure in 2023-2026 by 142.1 million rubles annually is also expected.

Recall that another dam has burst in Russia. This happened in the Chelyabinsk region. To escape the water, Russians climbed onto the roofs of their houses.
