Impressive footage. Mount Etna erupts in Sicily

by alex

On Sunday, November 12, one of the most active volcanoes in the world, Etna, began to erupt on the Italian island of Sicily.

Euronews reports this.

Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology said the height of last night's eruption column was estimated at about 4,500 meters above sea level.

It has been noted that Etna has been in an almost constant state of activity over the past decade.

Eruptions can occur several times a year and even within a month. The current period of eruptions began in 2013, according to the Smithsonian Global Volcanism Program.

Etna's explosions are generally classified as low-level volcanic activity. These include ash plumes, lava flows, and weak magma explosions.

Etna is considered a safe volcano – most eruptions do not pose a threat to those visiting or living in the area.

Often the biggest nuisance is the ash that covers surrounding towns during eruptions. It also forces Catania airport to close from time to time, as happened earlier this week and in May this year.

Earlier, an entire city in Iceland was evacuated due to a possible volcanic eruption.
