Strike on a railway station in the Kharkiv region
On the night of July 1, Russia attacked the railway infrastructure, launching a missile strike on one of the stations in the Kharkiv region.

As a result of the Russian attack, the conductor received shrapnel wounds to the head, Ukrzaliznytsia reported. The victim was given first aid, but she refused hospitalization.

Among the damaged — are two locomotives, freight cars and passenger cars. There is also damage to tracks and power supply facilities.
Fights on front
Fighting continues in the Eastern, Kharkov and Toretsk directions as Russia attempts to break through Ukrainian defenses. Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Syrsky told about the current situation on the front.
In the Pokrovsk direction, the enemy continues to concentrate its efforts, throwing experienced assault units into battle, trying to break through the defense of Ukrainian soldiers in the direction of Zhelannoye, Novogrodovka, Pokrovsk.
In the Kupyansk direction, fierce battles continue in the area of Peschanoye, Stelmakhovka and Makeyevka. However, the Ukrainian defenders are holding their positions.
In the Seversk direction, the situation remains difficult, since the enemy is actively using artillery and conducting assaults, but is not successful.
On the approaches to Chasovy Yar, fierce battles are taking place in the area of the canal, but without changing the positions of the parties. At the same time, the enemy is storming the areas of New York, Yuzhny, Zhelezny.
In the Kharkov direction, in the area of Glubokoye and Volchansk, fighting is also continuing, but the enemy is not having success and is suffering significant losses.
Power system situation
The situation with the power grid has improved significantly. Today, August 1, Ukrainians had electricity all day long.
According to Ukrenergo, the power outage schedules will not be applied on Friday, August 2. There is now enough capacity to provide Ukrainians with light.

Accident with Ukrainians in Poland
An accident involving a minibus with seven Ukrainian citizens occurred near Poznan in Poland, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported. The accident occurred on the evening of July 30.
The accident involved a Fiat Ducato minibus with Ukrainian license plates and a truck. The bus driver died.
There were seven Ukrainian citizens on the bus during the accident. The driver, also Ukrainian, died at the scene, and six passengers were hospitalized with similar injuries.
Grant from the US
Ukraine and the World Bank signed an agreement on a grant from the US in the amount of almost $3.9 billion.
According to the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, the agreement was signed with the World Bank Regional Director for Eastern Europe Bob Som.
It is worth noting that this is the first tranche of direct budget support for Ukraine from the United States in 2024.
Exchange between the Russian Federation and Western countries
A large-scale exchange took place between Russia and Western countries. US President Joe Biden said that among those returned — Paul Whelan, Evan Gershkovich, Alsou Kurmasheva and Vladimir Kara-Murza.
According to Biden, a total of 16 people will be released from Russia, including three US citizens, one American green card holder, five Germans, as well as seven Russian citizens who were political prisoners.
