Information appeared that Alexander Lukashenko dismissed Viktor Gulevich from the post of Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Belarus. This happened immediately after the self-proclaimed president of Belarus arrived from Russia, where he had a meeting with Vladimir Putin. Belarusian oppositionist and deputy chairman of the United Transitional Cabinet of Belarus Pavel Latushko told Channel 24 that Gulevich was dismissed on May 10. He added that this happened “immediately after Lukashenko returned from Moscow.” There, before May 9, he had a night meeting with Putin, Sergei Shoigu and Valery Gerasimov. The figure of Gulevich, according to Latushko, is interesting, because he comes from the Slutsk region of Belarus, where conscientious citizens mostly live and communicate in their native Belarusian language. He (Gulevich – Channel 24) is Belarusian, but I don’t want to idealize him. He was appointed chief of the General Staff in 2021, even before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which was supported by the Lukashenko regime. Gulevich is also on the sanctions list. However, some sources report that he was ready to communicate with the West, the oppositionist noted. Pavel Latushko emphasized that the military sovereignty of Belarus is very limited. The decision on dismissal from important military positions in Belarus is made in Moscow. Lukashenko simply signs orders.Reasons layoffs
