If we stop Russia in Ukraine, it will not challenge other countries – President of Latvia

by alex

Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics said that Russia is planning a long war in Ukraine. He called on countries that are hesitant about continuing military support for Kyiv to supply weapons so that Ukraine does not suffer a defeat and this does not give Russia the green light to threaten other countries in the future.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Rinkevics said that “it is important to actually fight for peace in the world and in Europe, because if we stop Russia in Ukraine, then it will not be able to challenge other countries.”

“I also believe that it will be much easier for us to maintain peace in Europe if Ukraine succeeds than if we fail Ukraine, or, for that matter, allow the situation in the Middle East to get out of control,” he said.

Rinkevichs noted that the Ukrainian military is fighting “very bravely,” and the West is obliged to respond to President Volodymyr Zelensky’s call for more weapons, “because we have not provided as many as we should have.”

The President of Latvia said that Russia is turning from an autocracy into a totalitarian regime and is resorting to propaganda worse than the Cold War.

“They show violent images or videos or animations of cities being destroyed in Europe or the United States using nuclear weapons, saying that nuclear weapons are actually a piece of cake,” he said.

He added that when Russians call Ukrainians “some kind of inferior human race,” this is very reminiscent of what Nazi Germany said about Jews.

Let us recall that at the beginning of October in Warsaw, media regulators of five countries signed a declaration on cooperation in the fight against disinformation. Signatories include Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania.
