The Ukrainian national football team played a draw (0:0) with the Italian team as part of the Euro 2024 qualification. This was the decisive game for a direct ticket to the tournament from Group C.
During the referee's stoppage time for the second half, a controversial moment occurred that could have affected the final score. Alexander Zubkov passed the ball to Mikhail Mudrik, who was in the opponent's penalty area, after which contact occurred with Italian defender Brian Cristante.
The Italian kicked Mudryk in the leg, after which the Ukrainian winger fell. One of the replays shows how Cristante fails to catch the ball and hits his leg.

Was there a penalty on Mudryk?
Former FIFA referee and refereeing expert Miroslav Stupar, commenting on this episode, said that if there had been a VAR check, a penalty would definitely have been awarded.
According to him, the Spanish referee “chose a style that is unusual for our referees,” but overall Gil Manzano was consistent.
– Just the moment with Mudrik… Mikhail often “finishes the picture” and falls beautifully. There were several falls earlier, to which the referee did not react, although in our case such things would have been recorded as fouls. But in the moment with Cristante, it was Mudryk who pierced the ball, the Italian’s leg turned out to be a barrier for the Ukrainian and Mudryk tripped over this barrier. And he fell onto the lawn. The on-field referee did not react and neither did the VAR. I think if Manzano had gone to watch the replay, he would have decided to give a penalty,” Stupav told UA-Football.
In the final qualifying match in Group C, the Ukrainian team drew with Italy with a score of 0:0. This result deprived the blue-yellows of a direct ticket to the tournament. Both teams scored 14 points, but the Italians qualified for the Euro based on additional indicators.
