Representatives of the US National Defense Strategy Commission stated that several years ago the preventive strategy of the United States was to prevent a partnership between Moscow and Beijing. However, this partnership should now be taken as a fact.

During a hearing at the Senate Armed Services Committee on July 30, representatives of the commission said that the modern world is now on the verge of a third world war. According to them, it can only be prevented by preparing for it, writes Channel 24.

Deputy Chairman of the US National Defense Strategy Commission Eric Edelman said in his report that partnership is a serious strategic shift, which arose between China, Russia, Iran and North Korea.

According to Edelman, the United States did not fully take this into account in its defense planning.

There is a potential for war in the near term, and also a possibility that we will lose it, said Eric Edelman.

He explained that the partnership between China, Russia, Iran and North Korea makes these countries potentially stronger militarily, economically and diplomatically. It may also weaken the tools at our disposal to combat them.

“It increases the likelihood that future conflict, such as in the Indo-Pacific region, will spread to other territory, and that we will find ourselves in a global war that will have the scale of World War II,” the official said.

Also, the deputy chairman of the commission added that China is ahead of the United States in many issues . Thus, the United States has the strongest army in the world, but 1,600 kilometers from the coast of China, Washington is losing its military dominance and may lose this conflict.

Edelman added that the Kremlin has restored its defense -industrial base after the invasion of Ukraine much faster than expected. According to the official, Putin is happy to destabilize the world just to restore Russia as a “great power.”
