I really hope: Stoltenberg on Ukraine’s NATO membership in 10 years

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg believes that in the next 10 years Ukraine can become a full member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

He expressed this opinion in an interview with dpa before the summit, which will take place on July 9-11 in Washington.

— I really hope that Ukraine will be an ally, — he emphasized, answering a question about the possible expansion of the alliance in the next ten years.

At the same time, he noted that Ukraine needs more military assistance — this determines when this war will end.

— The stronger this support is, the faster the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine can end, — he emphasized.

According to him, Vladimir Putin is implementing a strategy of stalling for time, hoping to weaken the resolve of the West.

— Putin believes he can outlast us. We must convince him that he cannot wait us out, and then this will create the conditions for ending the war, — summed up the NATO Secretary General.

Previously, the US State Department said that at the NATO summit in July they do not expect any decisions regarding inviting Ukraine to join the bloc, while at the same time, Kyiv will be shown significant support along this path.

We are talking about NATO’s consistent support in the development of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as in carrying out the reforms necessary for Ukraine to join the EU and “quickly cross the bridge to NATO membership.”
