After conversations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian dictator Putin, US President Donald Trump said he was unsure whether he could end the war in Ukraine.
Trump told reporters this on July 5 aboard the presidential plane Air Force One, Politico writes.
Trump unsure of ability to end war
“I don't know. I can't tell you whether it will happen or not (the end of the war in Ukraine – ed.),” Trump said.
When asked whether ending the war in Ukraine was a priority for him, he answered in the affirmative and assured that he was striving to achieve peace.

Trump stressed that the United States had provided support to many countries, and described the situation in Ukraine as a “Biden deal.”
“This is not Trump's deal. I'm trying to complete it,” he added.
Decision to stop arms supplies to Ukraine
NBC News, citing three American officials, reported that the Pentagon's decision to suspend arms supplies to Ukraine was unfounded.
According to the results of the analysis, the military aid packages for Kyiv did not pose a threat to US national stockpiles.
The move to suspend military sales to Ukraine was a personal decision by Defense Secretary Pete Hagseth, according to three congressional aides and a former senior official familiar with the matter.
Trump's conversation with Zelensky and Putin
This is the third time that Hagseth has voluntarily stopped aid to Kyiv. The previous times, in February and May, his actions were reversed within days of adoption.
The last phone call between Trump and Putin took place on July 3. Afterwards, the US president said he had been unable to achieve “no progress” on ending the fighting.
On July 4, Trump also spoke with Volodymyr Zelensky. The presidents discussed references to Russian strikes on Ukraine and the need for additional air defense systems. The conversation lasted about 40 minutes.
